This shapefile has been exported from the Aboriginal Heritage Information Management System (AHIMS) which was previously the Assets Sites Register. Sites recorded into the AHIMS are predominantly archaeological relics. These types of sites, as well as flora and fauna based sites and locations (now called Aboriginal Resource and Gathering Sites in AHIMS), are all important to Aboriginal people. These types of locations should all be considered in the planning context of their interpretation, and consideration is enhanced by consultation with Heritage Division staff and local Aboriginal people. The significance of the site is generally determined in conjunction with the relevant local Aboriginal community.
Because these sites are extremely sensitive, staff, who use this shapefile for planning purposes, need to abide to the following conditions:
1. The Aboriginal Sites Shapefile is for internal use only. Under no circumstance is a map or report of the data to be released externally. 2. Understand that this is not the only source of information when dealing with cultural heritage.
3. Where any interpretation of information is required all effort should be made to liaise with Heritage Division staff 4. All previous datasets are to be destroyed.
If staff do not comply with these restrictions the dataset will be removed.
